Apart from being a panoramic space to screen myriad documentaries and short films, the 11th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK) also became a space to express their concerns and extend their solidarity to social causes.
The documentary film makers came together on Sunday evening at Kairali theatre complex, the venue of on-going IDSFFK to support women in Malayalam film industry who are subjected to discrimination for dignity and gender equality in the workplace. The delegates who attended the documentary festival screening such as Surabhi Sharma,
Simantini Dhuru,
Anand Patwardhan, Debolina Majumdar, Mithali Biswas, Koel Sen, Rafeeq Ellias, Amudhan RP, Deepu and Jisha took part.
Popular filmmaker Simantini Dhuru commented WCC's efforts. “The kind of work WCC is doing in Malayalam film industry is going to change the landscape of Malayalam cinema in particular and Indian cinema in general”. Other filmmakers like Anand Patwardhan and Surabhi Sharma also condemned AMMA’s take on the actress abuse case.
