The film festival, which for the first time in its history has venues divided across four different regions in Kerala – Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thalassery and Palakkad, also has its silver jubilee edition this year. The event was inaugurated on Wednesday by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Nishagandhi Auditorium in Thiruvananthapuram. The occasion also saw the screening of the inaugural movie ‘Quo Vadis, Aida,?’ a war drama that was directed and written by Jasmila Zbanic. The film, which is in Bosnian, is set in a small town called Srebrenica in Bosnia and it has already bagged numerous awards and nominations at multiple festivals.
The festival is scheduled between February 10 and 14 in Thiruvananthapuram, February 17 to 21 at Ernakulam, February 23 to 27 at Thalassery and March 1 to 5 at Palakkad. As per reports, the award distributions will be held in Palakkad. There will be six theatres each at each of the venues, screening movies for five days. The delegates were also supposed to take antigen tests as part of the Covid – 19 protocols in place for the festival.
There are 80 movies, from over 30 countries, getting screened at IFFK this year and in the international competition section, the Malayalam films ‘Hasyam’ directed by Jayaraj and ‘Churuli’ by Lijo Jose Pellissery will also be featured.
