Viewers learn the art of creating abstract painting through online classes

As a part of the ongoing ‘Online Learning –

Children’s Summer Festival

, there was a visual arts

online learning

session on abstract painting by artist, Nikhat Tasneem Quazi. The session focused on teaching the fundamental elements that come together to create a successful abstract painting. Viewers learned about colouring, layering, composition and much more during the session. They also developed their abstract style and experienced the freedom of painting.

The artist began the session with a brief history of ‘Abstract Painting’. She explained that many cultures in the pre-historic times used to create abstract art on walls, rocks as well as pottery using linear shapes and geometrical forms. From Vincent Van Gogh to Pablo Picasso to Jackson Pollock, abstract art has been embodied many inspirations. Abstract painting is a journey from the known to the unknown. It is the subconscious mind of the artist that creates shapes, forms and paints them as they desire.

The artist went on to demonstrate how to practice sketching on a drawing pad using pencil or charcoal. Then the canvas was prepared using texture white and a hard roller rolled in several directions to create textures for the painting. Following this, using acrylic paint diluted with water, the artist painted with vibrant colours and a variety of brushes to create an artistic rendition of her subconscious.
