RU’s dramatics department turns into a ‘graveyard’ for a play
The Department of Dramatics,University of Rajasthan, turned into a ‘graveyard’ on Friday evening when the students from the department staged their annual play, Dr Faustus. The students recreated a graveyard – right outside the department – with coffins and lanterns. Mumal Tanwar, one of the students of the department adapted
Siva Prasad Tumu told us that the students, along with few staff members, dug the ground outside the department for a few days to create a graveyard-like setting for the play. Mumal Tanwar said, “We could not find a place that would have gone well with our play’s narrative. So,we decided that we will create our own space. I am happy that our hard work paid off.” It took Mumal three months to translate the play in Hindi.
Vinay Shukla, who played Dr Faustus, stole the show with his acting. For his character, Vinay had to sacrifice his hair. Talking about the same, he said, “When my director told me that my appearance would be that of a bald man, I did not think twice before shaving my head. Baalon se jyada acting se pyaar hai mujhe.”
Lokesh Ghiya, a B.Tech student from the city, said, “I was watching the play with rapt attention. The performances were fantastic.”
Anuradha Mandowara, verification expert at a private firm and a resident of Pratap Nagar, said, “I have never been to a play. This was my first and I had a great time.” The play was staged twice, on Friday and Saturday.
