Participants create inspirational designs at Mandana art camp

With the aim of empowering women artisans and promoting the traditional art of Rajasthan, Jawahar Kala Kendra organised a

Mandana Art camp

and

Henna/Mehendi Competition at Shilpgram

.

The programmes were organised as a part of ‘The Women’s Festival – Samarth’. Over 80 participants took part in the Mandana

Art Camp

and showcased their talent in making traditional Mandana. Apart from students and artists from the city as many as 22 women hailing from Barmer attended the art camp as an initiative of the ‘Rajhans Society’.

The participants first practiced their designs on paper which were selected by the committee. The selected designs were assigned spaces on the walls at Shilpgram and floor spaces around JKK to prepare the final Mandana. The Mandana were prepared by the participants using Geru Mitti (Red Soil), Chuna (Limestone Powder) and Cow dung.

Simultaneously, a Henna/ Mehendi Competition was participated by over 70 participants. Groups of participants along with their models created original Bharwa Mehendi designs till elbows. The two-hour long competition which concluded in the afternoon was judged by a selected committee.

The first prize of Rs. 5100 was bagged by Mayashree, second prize of Rs. 3100 was won by Riya and third prize of Rs. 2100 was won by Siddhi. Apart from this, 7 Consolation Prizes worth Rs. 1100 were also offered. Both the programmes were attended by underprivileged students from schools like Vimukti Girls School and Rajkiya Uch Madhyamik Vidyalaya.
