'Namami Gange' performance mesmerises the audience

Namami Gange

’ based on the divine river Ganga was presented by

Dr. Kavita Thakur from Delhi

Jawahar Kala Kendra

. The presentation of the Ganges, equipped with the techniques of Lucknow Kathak Gharana, led to the introduction of the holy Ganges.

The performance conceptualised and directed of Dr. Kavita Thakur of Delhi showcased ‘Gat Nikas’, ‘Tihai’, ‘Tukde’ and ‘Pramelu’ in an attractive manner. The programme was based on the poetry written by Pt. Birju Maharaj, Yash Malivya and Maharaja Devdhar Singh of Raigarh Gharana.

The programme began with the song ‘Devi Sureshwari Bhagwati Gange’ in Taal Chautal Raaga Durga. Following this, Dr. Kavita, while introducing Jeevandayini, Mokshadayini and Tribhuvanatarini Ganga, presented a beautiful dance on the song 'Chanchal Chaal Chapal Hai Meri' in Teen Taal Raaga Shahana. During the program, Bhagiratha’s efforts, description of Himgiri and the great journey of river Ganga from its descent on Earth till it falls in Ganga Sagar was presented.

After this, the artists gave a live demonstration of the challenges and plight of the present day Ganges. With the hope and belief of communicating that Ganga's pride will be revived, the program concluded. The use of Raagas like – Puriya, Dhanashri, Desh and Basant during the presentation is noteworthy.

Apart from Dr. Kavita Thakur, artistes Damini, Anupama, Jhalak, Ashmita, Srishti, Mayuk Bhattacharya, Sandee, Akash, Deepak and Chanchal performed in the programme. The music was given by Aman Ali.
