IOwnGurugram launched: Corporates and citizens unite to make the millennium city cleaner, safer, and more livable
In a bid to address Gurugram’s recurring civic and infrastructure challenges, a citizen–corporate movement, #IOwnGurugram, has been launched to inspire individuals, businesses, and communities to take ownership of the city’s cleanliness, safety, and road conditions. Conceived by philanthropist and social activist Dr Sarvesh Tiwari, the initiative aims to make the Millennium City cleaner, better maintained, and pothole-free. Despite Gurugram’s rapid growth and status as a corporate hub, the city continues to face issues such as damaged roads, unclean public spaces, and inadequate civic upkeep. The campaign calls on residents to work alongside authorities in resolving these challenges.
Marking the launch, over 100 employees of PR Professionals, an integrated communications firm headquartered in Gurugram, rolled up their sleeves to address issues around their office vicinity. Led by Dr Sarvesh Tiwari, founder & managing director, PR Professionals, along with Sanjay Gupta, CEO, and Rahul Kashyap, executive director, the team repaired dangerous potholes on MG Road—known to cause accidents, traffic congestion, and vehicle damage—and cleared nearly one tonne of rubbish from nearby pavements and the surroundings of Guru Dronacharya Metro Station.
Residents and passers-by joined in, showing strong community support. PRP volunteers further engaged with auto drivers and small food stall owners, urging them to maintain cleanliness. The campaign’s slogan, 'Hum Sudhrenge, Jag Sudhrega' ('If we improve, the world will improve'), reflects its spirit of collective responsibility.
Speaking at the launch, Dr Sarvesh Tiwari, Convener of #IOwnGurugram and founder & managing director of PR Professionals, said: “Gurugram is not just where we work; it’s our home. Just as we care for our homes, we must care for our city. With #IOwnGurugram, we want to shift from being passive observers to active problem-solvers, working shoulder-to-shoulder with citizens, authorities, and the government to make Gurugram a cleaner, safer, and better place to live. On PRP’s 14th Foundation Day, we decided to launch this initiative of owning the city and taking action instead of complaining.”
Dr Tiwari, known for leading impactful social movements including the Nirbhaya Movement, serves as secretary of the Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust. He has adopted the three daughters of Uri martyr Naik Sunil Kumar Vidyarthi. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he provided food and rations to around 500 stranded migrant labourers across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, and adopted 135 children who lost their parents, funding their education until their families regained financial stability.
He launched this initiative on the 14th Foundation Day of his company, PR Professionals. Beyond its excellence in communications, the company has a strong commitment to social welfare. Founded in 2011 by Dr Tiwari, a seasoned communications expert with over two decades of experience in the media, government, and corporate sectors, the company is the flagship of the PRP Group. Dr Tiwari currently serves as chairman of the Public Relations Society of Delhi (PRSD). The firm offers end-to-end branding and customised public relations solutions that help businesses become market leaders. From its humble beginnings, PRP has grown to 12 offices in India and six overseas, with a 250+ member team united by Dr Tiwari’s passion for excellence and commitment to social responsibility.
