Telly actors support the #MeToo movement
Actors Shivin Narang, Tunisha Sharma, Kanika Mann and Shweta Mahadik, who were recently in town, spoke to us about why they support the #MeToo movement and how it will create a safer working environment on TV sets.
“Being a part of this industry, I feel that it is our responsibility to know our limits and respect the boundaries set by a co-star, an actor or even a crew member on set,” said Shivin, who will soon be seen in the new serial Internet Wala Love. His co-star Tunisha added, “The industry has many faces, and the side revealed by this movement was the one that had been kept hidden for so long. I believe this will surely help create a safer environment on television sets.”
Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega actors Kanika Mann and Shweta Mahadika echoed the same sentiment. Kanika, who plays the role of a dutiful daughter on the new show, spoke about how it is the duty of every actor “to understand the comfort zone of the co-star and maintain a specific boundary of friendliness. Be it a female co-star or a male one, we should respect each other’s limits and behave accordingly.”
Shweta added, “Some people might be wondering why these actors are speaking up about harassment after so long. What we should do instead is respect their courage. I support all the victims and feel that they are role models, for those who suffered in silence for so long are finally coming out strong in front of the world.”
