Bhopali artists create musical Mehfil in Indore

Academy and sang the four hundred year old Urdu style of poetry ‘

Chaarbait

’ and ‘Mushairaya’ in Jaal Sabhagraha auditorium. They are the first female artistes to perform the forgotten style of Urdu poetry 'Chaarbait' aka 'Pathani Raaga', they simultaneously sang and played the Persian instrument of Daf which is also known as ‘Dafli’ with perfection. The

mehfil

came to an end with recital of several Mushairayas. Throughout the performance, the audience experienced the rich heritage of Urdu culture. The artists also presented Ghazals written by renowned shayar Mirza Galib ‘Yeh na thi hamari kismat ki bisaal-ae-yaar hota, agar aur jeete rehte toh yahi intezar hota’.

Professor Ali Ahmad Fatmi commenced the programme by giving a ‘tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by Shayaris written by various shayars in the Urdu adab and named him ‘Baba-ae-kom’.
