These choristers sang to herald peace on earth

Melodies permeated the air as 200 choir singers of different denominations of Christianity gathered at the

Wesley College Grounds

for a choir festival on Monday evening.Titled ‘Peace on Earth’, it was a one-of-a-kind evening that witnessed the coming together of more than eight denominations of Christianity to celebrate Christmas and counter the growing atmosphere of intolerance in the country.The choir singers comprising women in the majority, of the age groups 15-50, sang some classic numbers including Silent Night and Mary’s Boy Child, spreading the Christmas cheer.

In a strong show of solidarity, the heads of Catholic, Methodist, Church of South India, MB Mission, Baptist, Good Shepherds and

Orthodox

communities also came together to raise their voice against the recent attacks on Christians across the country.

Apart from speaking on the issue of safety of the Christian community, the Archbishop of the

Catholic Church

, Reverend Dr

Thumma Bala

also spoke about the lack of graveyards and the need for education grants for Christians which were elaborated in a memorandum handed out to the chief guest of the day, Deputy CM, Mohammed Ali.
