Runki mesmerises with her folk concert

Music buffs in Hyderabad were in for a rare treat recently when

vocalist

and music composer

Runki Goswami

presented a

concert

with a setlist of 25 songs in 17 different Indian languages, at Lamakaan. Titled ‘

Heirloom Collection Of Indian Folk

’, the concert was conceptualised by the vocalist with the sole aim of spreading awareness about Indian folk music among today’s youth.

“I have travelled across the length and breadth of the country and have encountered numerous folk music traditions. My aim of curating and presenting this concert is to promote forgotten forms of Indian folk music. I have tried to retain the songs’ exact flavour by singing them in their original language. These are the folk songs that have been passed onto us from generations,” said the vocalist who has also composed music for a few

Tollywood

movies such as Trivikraman and Writer-Theadavaste Writer among others. Accompanied by four musicians on tabla, sarangi, guitar and a keyboard, the singer not only sang but also spoke about Indian rich folk music legacy in between her songs. “After Delhi, this is the second time I am performing this concert. It’s a journey from North to South India through folk music in its original form,” she said, signing off.
