Adding a dash of adrenaline to the ongoing celebrations of fourth anniversary of
Telangana Formation Day, the state tourism ministry inaugurated a three-day paramotoring event for the first time in Hyderabad at the Bison Polo grounds on Sunday.
Citizens were thrilled to experience the adrenaline rush, which was priced at `2,500 per ride. With over 100 selfies taken by enthusiasts while in the sky, the first of the three day event was a hit and has set off a trend in the city.
“We already had a crazy first day with over 50 people riding the wind in the limited time of 6 hours,” said Captain PR Singh, one of the facilitators, adding that it is overwhelming to see Hyderabadis coming out to try the sport notwithstanding the thunderstorm conditions and soaring temperatures.

Paramotoring uses a motor to thrust the parachute into the air and is manoeuvred by the pilot who fly with the joyriders. “It is quite like a regular parachute, but unlike the one used for saving lives, this is for recreation. The motor gives a thrust similar to what a paraglider experiences while running down a hill before takeoff. The motor also navigates the chute,” explained Captain Singh.
After takeoff, one gets to sail over the city landscape for at least 15 minutes. While many were seen holding long selfie sticks to click selfies high up in the air, others were busy spotting their homes in maze of the city’s landscape. Those in queue for their turn, too took to their phones to capture the splendid scenes.
Such was the craze of paramotoring among the people that adrenaline junkies trickled in from places such as Nizamabad, Warangal, Kazipet, Sangareddy and Mahbubnagar to experience this one-of-a-kind sport. Admitting that it’s a must-have experience, many joyriders tipped those planning to give it a try in the coming days to watch out for landmarks such as the Old Airport, Tank bund, Banjara and Secunderabad from the sky.
