Latest gems from Bengali cinema charm Hyderabadis

Brining cinematic experiences from the northern shores of the Bay of Bengal, the 4th Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival recently opened to great fanfare in the city. This year, eight Bengali gems from the land of Academy Award-winner Satyajit Ray offered a peek into filmmaking from the state to Hyderabadis at Prasad Preview Theatre in the city.




The fest kicked off with ace filmmaker BuddhadebDasgupta’s latest multi-layered and allegorical drama Tope. Film aficionados made a beeline to the inauguration ceremony and were instantly captivated by the master filmmaker’s poetic treatment of a dark plot. Next up was Kaushik Ganguly’s

Bishorjon

, a cross-border saga with a romantic background, the screenings were followed by Q&A sessions.
The only competitive Bengali film festival in the country gave out Viewers’ Choice and Jury Awards and celebrated 50 years of Feluda, the iconic sleuth character created by Ray. In the guest film category, Telegu films,

Pelli Choopulu

and Na

Bangaaru Talli

were screened .The festival concludes today and films such as Asamapto, Peace Haven and

Abbey Sen

are lined up for screening.
