Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology welcomed Hyderabad Times Fresh Face 2011 with such frenzy and joy, it made the environment electrifying. Considering the myth that science students aren’t the fun crowd, the team was quite apprehensive of their response. But the students of this college drove out all the myths wrong as they proved it to the judges and the audiences that they cannot be tagged as the bookish crowd with the kind of show they put up.
The judges were Telugu filmmaker S Umesh Kumar, actor Adarsh Balakrishna of “Happy Days” fame, fashion designer Ganesh Nallari and Radio mirchi RJ Rharat.
All the judges seemed to have a ball as they were bowled over by the talents of the students. Later they also walked into the crowd and hand-picked a few students who they thought would be good contenders. Actor Adarsh was a huge hit with the crowd, as the engineering college students connected with his movie pretty well. Towards the end, the judges were in a complete fix, and therefore, shortlisted a few and had them perform again, only then could they finalize on the winners.
The talents were a mix of video jockeying, singing, comedy acts, talks and of course dance! Among the boys,
Arjun Nair for sure tickled a rib, with his comedy act and finished as the second runner up along with B Kranthi Kumar who caught the eye of the judges with his electrifying performance to “Ammi Ammi” from the film “Takkari”. The first runner-up was K Nikhil Kishore who didn’t miss a beat in his performance to the song “Oh Mere Khuda” from “Prince”. While the judges were all set to announce who the winner was, the audience seemed like they already knew it and screamed it loud for Jai Ram. And yes! He definitely was a clear winner with his extremely heart melting performance to the latest melody “Rooba Rooba” from the movie “Orange”.
The girls were equally impressive with their sweet tones and jhatkas and matkas. A Priyanka danced to “Chamka Chamka” from “Chiruta” and was the third runner-up for the day. The second runner-up was the delicate H Shruthi who danced to the famous “Taal Se Taal Mila”. Vidya Mary Jacob wooed judges with her sweet voice as she hummed a few lines from the song “That’s The Way It Is” by Celine Dion. She finished as the first runner-up with the winner being a trained classical singer Y Priya Madhurya. Priya proved her versatility as a singer as she sang both a classical number as well as the famous “Munni Badnaam Hui”.
The event was definitely an electrifying affair and there’s more to come.
