How Skylark Labs is using AI Drones to redefine crowd safety
When lakhs of people gather in one place, managing safety becomes one of the toughest challenges for any administration. This year, during Maharashtra’s Ashadi Wari in Pandharpur, over 27 lakh people took part in the annual walk. For the authorities, it meant keeping a close eye on movement across busy roads, bridges, and gathering points.
One company played a quiet but key role in helping make that possible: Skylark Labs India. Working alongside drone-maker ideaForge and Bluesky Amida, the team deployed AI-enabled drones to monitor high-density areas and provide real-time alerts to police officers on the ground.
The technology behind the mission
Skylark’s strength lies in what it calls “edge AI.” Unlike systems that depend heavily on internet or cloud connectivity, Skylark builds intelligence directly into drones, cameras, and sensors. This means the system can read live footage, analyze crowd density, track movement patterns, and send alerts instantly even if the network is weak or unavailable.
During the Pandharpur deployment, drones captured live video while Skylark’s AI processed the feeds on the spot. The platform identified where congestion was building and warned officials before problems turned serious. For the police, this meant quicker action and smoother crowd movement.
More than one event
While the Ashadi Wari was one of its largest deployments in India, Skylark Labs sees it as part of a bigger journey. The company is focused on solving real-world safety and security challenges from crowd management and public safety to defense and critical infrastructure. Its AI platforms are designed to adapt, learn, and function independently, giving organizations a way to manage complex environments in real time.
A philosophy of practical AI
At its core, Skylark believes technology should serve people quietly, without drawing attention to itself. The goal isn’t to overwhelm with gadgets but to make sure safety risks are handled before they become crises. Whether it is managing a festival, a rally, or any large public event, the approach remains the same: keep people safe, prevent panic, and give officials the tools they need to respond faster.
Skylark Labs may be a young company, but its work reflects a blend of ambition and practicality. By proving that AI-driven drones can be more than just experimental tools, the team is showing how modern technology can fit naturally into the way cities, events, and organisations operate.
As India continues to host some of the largest gatherings in the world, the need for such solutions will only grow. And in that future, Skylark Labs is positioning itself not just as a technology provider, but as a partner in safety, one that blends innovation with responsibility.
