FITNESS FOR A CAUSE: This edition of Gurgaon’s
Raahgiri Day saw kids and adults with autism, cerebral palsy and down’s syndrome from several NGOs stage cultural programmes. But it was Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khatter, who arrived in casuals at the TOI stage, stole the show with his wise cracks and display of fitness.
FITTEST OF THEM ALL: The CM walked and ran a stretch of five kilometres with his entourage, stopping at various points to interact with the kids.
When a kid shouted “Hello uncle” and waved at him, he waved back, and said, “In our culture, we have chacha, mama and foofa. And then there’s the ‘uncle’, which is anyone who visits our house but isn’t related to you.” When the police officials accompanying him found it difficult to match pace with him, he said, “Jo nahi daud paa rahe, aaram se aao.” He even applauded the concept of Raahgiri Day and the efforts of NGOs working to bring differently-abled people in the mainstream.
CRICKET MANIA: Anup, a visually-impaired guy who bowled as the CM took up batting, said, “It was only later that people told me that he’s the CM.” Many Gurgaonwallahs came not just to see their CM but also to applaud the kids.
