Some of the residents and music enthusiasts of Malibu Town in Gurgaon’s Sector 47 got together recently for a musical evening at Ragaaz Music Academy, a music venue and studio in the society. The academy held an open jamming session that was attended not just by professional singers from the city, but also by singing enthusiasts and filmmaker Nila Madhab Panda, who came all the way from south Delhi to be a part of the event.

The three-hour musical session saw performers – ranging from ages 10 to 60 – come up to the stage and perform songs, covering diverse genres and artists like Mohammad Rafi, Ghulam Ali, Arijit Singh and even Adele. The evening began with the youngsters singing some of their favourite tunes, followed by two professional singers from Gurgaon – Abdul Samad Khan and Chandrakant – regaling the audience with acoustic versions of ghazals and songs from the yesteryears. The duo even got the audience crooning along with them, forcing many to shed their inhibitions and take to the stage to perform like pros themselves. “I used to sing when I was young, and I saw a sign about this open musical night, so I came here with my wife,” said Malibu Town resident Sushil Gandhi, who sang two duets with his wife, Renuka. Nila Madhab Panda, a music enthusiast himself, said, “The only reason I took time out on a Saturday evening and came here, is because we need such gatherings. Such community-driven musical gatherings not only enrich our lives, but also make us softer, which is required, given the current climate of NCR. I wish there were such events in Delhi too.”
