#GrillThrill: Here’s your ultimate guide to a BBQ party
With the weather just right, it is time to fire up the grill and gather your friends for a fun-filled backyard bash with a BBQ party this winter. We spoke to chefs and organisers to get some tips on the tandoor do’s and don’ts.
An electric grill is easy to handle for small gatherings but if you have expertise to handle a desi-style grill then go DIY with charcoal-wood, sand and brick walls. Keep fire safety tools handy
– Rehan Waris, city-based event manager
Use separate utensils for raw and cooked food. Serve options to eat while the food is getting grilled. Don’t overload the grill with too much food as that can cause flare ups
– Pallavi Khaitan, chef
Must-haves for your BBQ party
>Always have a backup plan in case of bad weather. If you’re outdoors, consider a gazebo, tent, or a backup indoor space
>Ensure there are enough condiments, sauces, and seasonings available (eg, ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, hot sauce, pickles)
>Choose a grill that matches the number of guests and the type of food you’ll cook
Coolers & ice: For keeping drinks cold and fresh
>Outdoor lighting: If the BBQ extends into the evening, string lights or lanterns can add ambience
>Serving platters: Large enough to handle large quantities of food
>Blankets or lawn chairs: For guests to sit and enjoy their food comfortably
>Fire pit: Nice touch for warmth and ambience if you’re grilling in the evening

Organising a BBQ party is fun, but
it requires planning for it to be executed smoothly. Keep count of the guests, decide whether it’s a casual cookout or a themed BBQ and plan your menu accordingly– Vidisha Bathwal, home chef
Keep the playlist exciting and make a music-lover in your group the DJ for the day
