kept the crowd enthralled on Saturday evening at a performance arts space in Assagao. The enthralling evening at Shala 142 saw many artists in attendance. With the theme ‘What’s possible between us?’ three artists Rochelle D’Silva (poetry),

(dance) and Joe Ferrao (guitar) put together a memorable collaborative performance.
Rochelle who has started Blackbox — a series of poetry experiments, presented 10 pieces on the theme. Rochelle said, “In this edition, ‘Words in Motion’, we responded to the question, ‘What is possible between us?’ It was an extremely enriching experience for me personally because it pushed me out of my comfort zone. Joe is a fantastic musician and he is superb with improvisation. The music, movement and poetry all came together beautifully. The energy was electric and it was one of the best audiences I have had at a gig in a while.”
In the interactive session, artists invited the listeners to express themselves by writing a few lines on the same theme and were given a glimpse into how spoken word poetry comes alive with personal experiences post the event. “Rochelle’s poetry came with its own spirit and, in dialogue with Rea’s movements, took on a life of its own. Joe’s music amplified and muted and worked with the emotions in the room. It was a special experience,” said Tashan Mehta, who attended the event.
Another attendee, Karan Tejpal, said, “I flew in from Mumbai on the day itself and was lucky to get a chance to attend Blackbox. We walked in knowing nothing but at the end of it we were richer in thoughts and feelings. The amalgamation of the poet, the dancer, the music and the space was sublime.”
