Locals flock to Baga beach for their last salt water bath

Every year, during summers,

Goan

families visit the beaches for their annual

salt water bath

. It's a common practice that goes on every summer, where they take a dip in the safe zone of the beach and believe it helps them heal from aches and pains.

Thousands of families including elderly and kids were spotted on

Baga beach

on Sunday, just before the onset of the pre-monsoon showers. Maria Monteiro, 81, who was at the beach with her children and grandkids says, "I have been visiting the beach annually with my family for as long as I remember. Sometimes, we are even accompanied by our neighbour families. It's a good time for family bonding."

Due to the lockdown, several families who couldn't visit earlier took the lockdown relaxation as time for a quick day out. Philomena D'souza from Mapusa, who was there with her family says, "We usually come earlier, but this year, due to the lockdown we weren't sure we could. So we all decided to come just before the rains, since its a habit."
