Konnsachem fest celebrated at Chicalim by youth who planted paddy amid lockdown

Konnsachem fest celebrated at Chicalim by youth who planted paddy amid lockdown
It all began with the tilling of a field in June, at Chicalim by around 10 youth from the village. The youth got together and planted paddy on a 10,000 sq mt field in the locality.
On the occasion of the feast of St Bartholomew, it was time for harvest to reap the rewards of their efforts. The members who planted the paddy and the parish priest Fr Bolmax Pereira along with the members of the church blessed the field.

"Konnsachemfest is a harvest festival celebrated by cutting off the first 'konnos' marking the arrival of harvest season. The first corn is cut after invoking God's blessings on fields, farm produce and farmers. The first fruit is offered to God," says Bolmax.
He adds, "Usually people used to get their fruits and farm produce was offerings which was later distributed to the needy. This year due to COVID-19 the rite of blessing was restricted to only the organisers and the owner of the field. By God's blessings we got the konnsam right on time for konnsachem fest."
