It’s time we introduce our parents to tech: Kevin D’mello

The lockdown has given

Goan

actor Kevin D'mello the time to be home with the family. He revealed he has been trying to get his father Cezar acquainted to using technology and social media, which he says is the need of the hour. “My father has been a pillar of strength to me. He is one of the best critics and my motivation to venture into films.” While his father who is a Konkani playwright recently received the State Cultural Award 2019-20 in the field of literature, Kevin ensured he taught him the basics of social media and how it can help in his field of work.

“After I taught him how to share links on Facebook and Whataspp, he spends more time on his phone than I do. In fact, he loves to watch

live videos telecast

by a radio channel abroad. It is funny that even though we are at home, he will send me messages to watch the live telecast and ask me to comment on his posts on Facebook. These are simple things that make him very happy. The lockdown has also taught him that online is the new way of life.”
While at home during the lockdown, Kevin introduced Cezar and his mother to the

TikTok

app. “He was amazed that old Hindi songs can be lip-synced and uploaded. We also discovered that my mother loves to act too,” he says, adding, “Though we have learnt everything from our parents, it’s time that we also introduce them to technology. We have to keep up with times and during the

pandemic

it has been a necessity more than a privilege.”
