Incredible hulks rule Baga beach!
It was a pure and breathtaking display of brawn as power weightlifters from around the globe congregated on
The event, which took place on the first two days of December, had power weightlifting athletes from Denmark, Australia, Portugal, Finland, New Zealand, Brazil and USA, apart from India. Some of the categories in which they competed were log lift, frame carry, axle deadlift, loading race, squats and so on. The excited audience was in for a treat as they watched
Angrej, an eight-time national champion in power lifting and currently an employee of the Indian Railways, told us, “It was a tough competition, considering it had participants from all over the world. I have taken part in many events, but this was quite challenging. Tiago Aparecido from Brazil, who bagged the gold, was a tough
opponent. Atlas Stone was the toughest for me — I managed to do 100 kg. But beyond that was just impossible.”
Brian Moller Larsen from Denmark bagged the first place in the under-90 kg category, while Jiri Tkadlcik from Czech Republic was placed first in the under-105 kg category and Thomas Granhof from Denmark walked away with the award for under-120 category. The open class winner was Tiago Aparecido from Brazil.
While the unique event proved to be a resounding success, our own Angrej Singh made all the Indians proud!
