Director Farha Khatun’s Holy Rights (Muqaddas Safar) focuses on triple
talaqwhich is selected at the Indian Panaroma. It all started off by an incident that made an impact in her life. “I was in school when this happened, a distant relative of mine came over to my
nani’s house and she was crying her hair and sari was disorganised – she was in a very vulnerable state.
She came to my grandmother and said that her husband pronounced
talaq twice and before he said it the third time she shut his mouth – this was in the middle of a fight and if this had to happen her life would have ended. The term
talaq was pronounced out of anger and rage and her husband didn’t mean it. Though things were settled, the incident stayed with me. I had to express it,” says Farha.
