Goan youngsters make music about Covid19
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has seen various artist release songs based on the virus. While sharing the important messages of social distancing and hygiene through music, they also help to entertain their viewers. A few Goan youngsters have also released music based on the coronavirus. We get them to share their experience and inspiration with us. 74966309The brother sister duo – Merak - Belinda Mendes and her brother Brandon Mendes, got together and came up with a song on Coronavirus. “Like everybody else, we were deeply concerned about the scale of this pandemic. Thought we could spread some awareness and a little bit of cheer by doing what we do best. It's obvious the world's facing a lot of hardships, but what's the point of sulking? We wrote about people’s problems, as well as some positive effects resulting from the world standing still. We then compiled some informative videos from YouTube- animations and news clips we thought fit,” says Belinda. To which Brandon adds, “It was spontaneously made. We wanted to write a song about being in self-quarantine, and that's exactly how it started. We like writing songs about things we think are a big deal for us. Our process is pretty simple, write down what we feel and jam till the melody goes with the idea.” The duo told us that they spent two days to put it together. 74966319Febronia Fernandes, a mass media student and singer/songwriter had a parody made which was basically the theme song from TV show Friends, “I tweaked the lyrics to fit perfectly to our quarantine situation and also making people aware of the fact that this lockdown is not a joke but something to be followed very strictly in order to be safe and so that none of us contract the deadly virus.” Since she studies in Mumbai and the outbreak of COVID-19 was seen there before it was seen in -Goa, she adds “When I returned home, I realised that compared to Mumbai, locals weren’t aware of the spread and weren’t taking it seriously. So I tried to make the song catchy and fun as this theme song is known by almost everyone.” The song took Febronia an hour to write the lyrics but practicing and post production took her a day. 74966341Similarly, Steve Da Costa, a student of BSc, released a parody based on the COVID-19 pandemic to the tune of the classic 'Sweet Caroline' by Neil Diamond. “I speak about where the virus originated from - Wuhan, China and how the disease has been spreading like a wildfire ever since, especially its effect in Italy. I've also mentioned about empty shelves in stores. In the chorus, I mention hand-washing is of utmost importance and social distancing is a must.” While the cases kept increasing, Steve decided to write a song. “I thought this would be a great way to spread awareness and address people about this pandemic in a fun manner. Since my family is into music, I wrote the lyrics, recorded the video and posted it all in one evening. I wasn't expecting much of a response and was skeptical that it would get noticed. A lot of people have personally got in touch with me saying they really enjoyed it.”
