It was a gloomy Thursday afternoon, but the slight drizzle in most parts of Goa did not dampen the mood. Govindas and Krishnas everywhere were ready to break pots and steal their prize, at the dahihandi competitions held all over the state. From temples to college campuses, the celebratory mood was vivid and people were seen enjoying the festival of Janmashtami.

One such instance is that of Goa College of Art, Altinho, Panaji, where students were eagerly waiting to showcase their artistic talents during the festivities. Vaishnavi Haldankar, a student from the organising team says, “The event was organised by the thirdyear students, with competitions wherein groups participating would have to put up a show as they enter the venue, and the best group would win a prize. This has been a tradition, and we have stuck to it. We missed the celebrations during the COVID pandemic, and so we made up for the fun last year and this year, with activities like rangoli , face painting and mehendi .”
