Carnival brings music and colour to Goa

Panaji came alive yesterday as the much-awaited Carnival parade hit the streets! With roads decked out in vibrant colors, sparkling masks, and dazzling decorations, the city welcomed King Momo and a host of colorful floats, promising another year of fun, frolic, and entertainment.

Groups that have been preparing for months finally showcased their creativity, talent, and hard work. Marshall Fernandes and her family, visiting Goa for a cousin’s wedding from the UK, shared their excitement: "Most of my family came to Goa in the first week of February. We’ll be flying out on the 16th, so we decided to watch the floats and join in the revelry," said Peter Fernandes.

This year’s parade began at Santa Monica Jetty and ended at Kala Academy, taking spectators on a spectacular journey through Goan culture. Among the participants was Raul Pereira from Quepem, who has been part of the Carnival floats for 28 years. This year, he focused on showcasing Goan occupations, adding a unique cultural touch to the parade.

Visitors from across India also joined the celebrations. Shubham Pramanik from Pune, who attended the curtain-raiser on February 13 and the parade in Panaji, said, “This has been the experience of a lifetime. The energy, colors, music, and creativity of each float are incredible.
