Day, this bookshop in
Margao
invited professional and amateur poets, to come recite their poetry in any language.
It was an evening of warmth creativity and bonhomie, with several first-time and seasoned writers - of several ages and from several walks of life - sharing their works in this cozy atmosphere.
“There were a number of Portuguese poems read out by Goan students studying the language. Some of these were quite complex. There were some simple poems too, meaning of which I could understand even though I don’t know Portuguese. This shows that simple language can convey a lot of meaning,” says Jose Lourenco, civil engineer, from Margao.
“The event had a varied group of people, who read out their poetry in languages like Portuguese, Hindi, English and
Konkani
. This is definitely a good way of providing a platform to such talent, and spoken word poetry must be encouraged,” says Gauravi Keni, assistant professor at Damodar College, Margao.
