20-year-old Souraksha Ramakant Naik, created a

3D image

of a

life sized crocodile

, at Ponda which went viral on social media.“It took four days to complete and ever since, I’ve always been fascinated about 3D rangoli, in in the last two months after I took tips from friends and internet, I made my first display of a life-sized crocodile.” A final year student of BA at

Ponda Education Society

, in Farmagudi, this was the sixth rangoli artwork done.

During the lockdown, I got busy creating a different style for myself; a crocodile was one of the most difficult to complete. I would spend around two to three hours a day doing completing the artwork. I got a friend who also taught me some of the techniques of doing 3D rangoli – the colours that I need to use, mixing them to find shades among other techniques,” says Souraksha.

She adds, “People undermine

rangoli artists

, but the time and effort it takes is equal to what any other artist would take. There is an online rangoli competition that I want to enrol myself in – this will give me more exposure which will help me in the future.”
