Goa rings in new year with record hotel occupancy and renewed tourism momentum
Goa has welcomed the New Year on a high note, recording exceptionally strong hotel occupancy across the State and reaffirming its reputation as one of India’s most sought-after tourism destinations. Several hotels reported near-full bookings during the festive period, signalling robust traveller confidence and positive momentum for the tourism sector in the months ahead. Minister for Tourism, Rohan A. Khaunte, attributed the strong performance to Goa’s ongoing transformation towards sustainable, experience-driven tourism. “The high occupancy levels at the start of the New Year are a clear reflection of our focused strategy on promoting quality tourism. We’ve been working to diversify experiences, enhance infrastructure, and advance responsible and regenerative practices. This growth is not just about visitor numbers—it’s about generating meaningful opportunities for local communities and ensuring Goa’s long-term sustainability as a global destination,” he said. The encouraging trend follows consistent efforts by the Department of Tourism to strengthen destination readiness, improve connectivity, and showcase Goa as a year-round travel destination. Visitors this season have explored not just the coastline, but also cultural, wellness, spiritual, and hinterland offerings—creating a more balanced and inclusive tourism footprint across regions.
Director of Tourism, Kedar Naik, noted, “The positive occupancy figures reflect the success of proactive planning and close engagement with industry stakeholders. Goa’s tourism landscape is evolving—beyond beaches, towards diverse, immersive experiences. The New Year response validates this direction, and we remain committed to building on this momentum across all parts of the State.”
Tourism industry stakeholders have echoed this optimism, highlighting renewed traveller confidence and growth across segments. The surge in tourist arrivals has also spurred activity in allied sectors—transport, restaurants, homestays, and local enterprises—further boosting the State’s tourism-driven economy.
Jack Sukhija, President of the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG), remarked, “The New Year has started on an exceptionally positive note for Goa’s tourism industry. High occupancies across hotel categories indicate sustained demand and strong traveller confidence. Goa continues to be a preferred choice because of its diverse experiences, quality infrastructure, and the seamless collaboration between Government and industry.”
With the New Year setting an upbeat tone, the Department of Tourism continues to work closely with partners to ensure safe, seamless, and high-quality visitor experiences—anchored in Goa’s vision of sustainable and regenerative tourism. The strong start to 2026 sets the stage for a year of steady, inclusive growth for the State’s tourism sector.
