From Ambala to Hollywood: Apoorv Arora’s 10-Year Journey to Bravado
For Apoorv Arora, the road to his first feature film as a lead producer wasn’t paved in red carpets. It was built project by project—nearly a hundred of them—over ten years in the United States. Now, as Bravado enters post-production and eyes a 2026 release, Arora marks not just a professional milestone, but a personal one.
“Bravado isn’t just a film,” says Arora. “It’s the result of years of hard work, near misses, and late nights where I wondered if it would ever happen. Then finally, the opportunity presented itself—and I was ready. When it was greenlit, it felt like the universe quietly nodded in agreement.”
Directed by Alex Hanno, Bravado is a meta-thriller set inside a film about making a film—where a submissive writer attempts to shape her mafia drama under the looming presence of a manipulative director. Set against the gritty underworld of the UK’s crime scene, the story bends as it’s written, creating a dynamic narrative that reflects both chaos and control—a fitting parallel for any filmmaker’s career.
But Arora’s journey began far from the sound stages of Los Angeles. Raised in Ambala, India, he cultivated his creative roots in schools across Ambala and Mussoorie before pursuing film and media studies at the Centre for Advanced Media Studies (CAMS) at Punjabi University, Patiala. He would go on to earn two more degrees—an MBA from International American University, and a Master’s in Filmmaking & Producing from the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles.
“The rise of vertical storytelling is reshaping the way we consume content,” Arora explains. “It’s fast, personal, and intimate. I was drawn to that immediacy—and so were the vertical platforms.”
As a producer, his portfolio spans collaborations with major Indian brands such as Disney India, where he produced the Frozen 2 commercial featuring Priyanka Chopra, as well as with Yash Raj Music, Balaji Telefilms, Speed Records, and MTV India, contributing in various production capacities.
“If you’re a young Indian filmmaker dreaming of making it globally—don’t stop. There will be silence, rejection, and uncertainty. But if you keep showing up, your ‘yes’ will come. Mine took 10 years. Yours might take less—or more. But it will come.”
As Far As We Know was a finalist at the Cannes World Film Festival 2023, while Bageecha won Best Drama at Cannes World 2024, Best Director at the Indian Independent Film Festival, and screened at LA Shorts.
His recent short, directed by Ali Imran Zaidi, The Boy with the Dinosaur Head, won a prestigious $50,000 grant from Stowe Story Labs. Music video Nadaniya won Best Music Video at both the Indian Independent Film Festival 2023 and Ponza Film Festival 2024. The Sacred Bees received Best Cinematography at the Fantasy/Sci-Fi Film and Screenplay Festival 2023 and was selected for LA Shorts 2023.
“This industry doesn’t hand out anything easily,” says Arora. “But if you keep doing the work, stay curious, and lead with purpose, the right doors do open. And when they do, you walk through ready—not lucky.”
With Bravado on the way and new ventures already lining up, Arora’s story is no longer just about the journey—it’s about momentum.

The Vertical Visionary
Before landing Bravado, Arora spent years crafting short films, music videos, and branded content—eventually founding Apoorv Arora Films, a production company specialising in everything from films to vertical mini-series. Among his many ventures, his work with Pocket FM has stood out—producing serialised vertical shows like Insta Empire and Saving Nora, both well-received by digital-first Indian audiences.“The rise of vertical storytelling is reshaping the way we consume content,” Arora explains. “It’s fast, personal, and intimate. I was drawn to that immediacy—and so were the vertical platforms.”
A Voice for the Next Generation
Through it all, Arora’s north star has remained the same: to tell impactful stories while creating opportunities for collaboration and mentorship.“If you’re a young Indian filmmaker dreaming of making it globally—don’t stop. There will be silence, rejection, and uncertainty. But if you keep showing up, your ‘yes’ will come. Mine took 10 years. Yours might take less—or more. But it will come.”
