Empowering youth through theatre: A celebration of creativity and mental health

The Creative Arts Academy hosted a children's production on November 23rd and 24th, showcasing inspiring performances that highlighted the themes of resilience, mental health, and artistic expression. The event, conceptualised and mentored by TCA's founder-director, Ramanjit Kaur, featured inspiring performances from the junior and senior theatre children, alongside contemporary dance and western vocals. Each production was a testament to the power of creativity and collective storytelling, tackling themes of resilience, mental health, and the joy of artistic expression.

The senior's theatre production, Waiting in the Wings…Again, written and directed by Baisali Chatterjee Dutt, was a heartwarming exploration of the complexities behind a high school theatre production. Masterfully blending humour and drama, it tells the story of the challenges teenagers face today — loneliness, stress, constant pressure, and the relentless rat race. It emphasises the importance of pausing, reflecting, and addressing mental health while celebrating the transformative power of collective creativity. Through this narrative, the students not only performed but also advocate for critical societal values, making it a deeply impactful experience for all. The juniors' theatre batch presented a heartwarming adaptation of Paro Anand's Pepper, the Phantom Pet, directed by Ceiloni Sengupta. The storyline examined themes of self-doubt, honesty, and the validation we seek, interwoven with playful moments that bring joy and warmth to the stage. The Western vocals segment by Swastika Mukherjee celebrated music's ability to convey heartfelt emotions, expressing individual thoughts and rejoicing in the pure joy of singing.
