Dr Rao’s Hospital opens neuro and spine OPD centres in seven Andhra cities on its 6th anniversary
Dr Rao’s Hospital recently launched neuro and spine outpatient centres in seven cities of Andhra Pradesh. This decision comes on the sixth anniversary of the hospital. The cities where OPD centres have been opened include Eluru, Rajahmundry, Bhimavaram, Kakinada, Vijayawada, Ongole, and Nellore. Patients no longer need to travel far for expert treatment—they can now reach OPD centres in their own cities. The founder of the hospital, Dr Mohana Rao, shared that the aim is to bring high-quality treatment closer to people. This marks a significant step in solving the problem of access to specialised care in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
Dr Mohana Rao Patibandla was born in Dronadula, a small farming village in Andhra Pradesh. He studied medicine at Andhra Medical College and later underwent advanced training in Hyderabad. He then went to the United States to learn complex brain and spine surgeries. Even after becoming an expert abroad, he chose to return home. In 2019, he started Dr Rao’s Hospital in Guntur with the dream of providing people in small towns with the same level of care found in big cities.
The hospital is known for handling serious and rare cases like brain tumours, strokes, and spine issues. It even performed India’s first BrainPath surgery. People come from Telangana, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and even from outside India. Dr Rao’s team uses advanced tools but also believes in simple things like regular check-ups and follow-ups. The new city centres allow patients to get second opinions, early reports, and post-surgery care close to home without needing to visit Guntur.
Dr Rao’s Hospital also teaches and trains young doctors. They organise workshops and sessions to spread knowledge about neurosurgery. Dr Rao shares his research at medical events across India and abroad, and he recently won a prize for his research on brain surgery. The hospital also runs free camps in villages, teaches school children about epilepsy, and offers online advice for people who cannot travel. This shows how they care about the community beyond the hospital walls.
Each of the new branches is designed for patients who cannot travel easily. The outpatient centres offer expert consultations, stroke checks, and spine services. They are also linked with the main hospital in Guntur through online systems. So, even if surgery is needed later, everything stays connected. The centres will gradually grow into full clinics with more facilities. These services mean that families do not have to relocate just to get someone treated.
Dr Rao believes that every patient deserves honest advice and kind treatment. The hospital never forces unnecessary tests or surgeries. Everything is shared clearly with the patient’s family, and the cost is kept fair so that people do not delay treatment due to financial constraints. The hospital works with one goal—to make the patient feel safe, understood, and hopeful. This focus on dignity has made it a trusted place in the region.
Many hospitals only care about numbers and profits, but Dr Rao’s Hospital gives time and attention to each case. The team invests time in counselling, explaining risks, and guiding families. They even provide post-surgery support with rehabilitation and online advice. Their success is not just in medical results but in smiles returned and lives restored. That is why even patients from far-off countries come back here.
The hospital has come a long way—from one centre in Guntur to seven cities now—but the mission is not over. The team wants to keep reaching new towns and helping more people. As Dr Rao says, “We are not just fixing the brain or spine—we are helping people walk, think, talk, and live again.” This journey shows how one man’s dream, when backed by skill and heart, can bring real change to many lives.
