'Women's Cricket World' book launch

With the World Cup Cricket assuming fever pitch, cricket writers are crawling out of the woodwork to release their books. Famous woman cricketer Anjum Chopra along with filmmaker Sunil Yash Kalra recently released a book titled “Women’s Cricket World” in the capital.
The book that reveals the origins of the game was released in the presence of Sharad Pawar, ICC president, Ajay Maken, minister of youth affairs and sports and KPS Gill.The gathering included eminent sportsmen, commentators and cricket experts.
Releasing the book, Sharad Pawar, said, “The book is a treasure trove of information which talks about the popularity of women’s cricket and its gradual evolution and popularity across the world. The book is rich in content and has a special chapter devoted to the history of first women cricket match that was played in 1745. It’s quite educative and entertaining. 2011 is an eventful year and again in the year 2013 we will see another landmark event, i.e., Women’s World Cup.” Ajay Maken said, “Women sports persons have gained lot of recognition globally. They have defied all odds to fulfill their dream for sports.” According to him, there was a time when women would be devoted to the minutiae of domestic life, with no mind or wishes of their own. “It has not been easy for them to break free of so many shackles and play for the country. Definitely, Anjum Chopra is one such example in Indian women’s cricket. She has done a lot of research while penning the book.”
KPS Gill, who is known to call a spade a spade, said, “We need to promote other kinds of sports in our country as well other than cricket.” Also present was famous cricket commentator Narottam Puri.
