The Delhi Traffic Police, in association with an auto major, has launched the Traffic Training Park in CP recently, where one can learn lessons in road safety through innovative methods. The park has something for everyone – while kids as young as nine can learn the basic road rules through bikes which they can ride and games like snakes and ladders, women have the option of learning to ride two-wheelers from female teachers.

Anil Shukla, joint commissioner of police (Traffic), said, “Pre-licence education is almost nil in our country. There are some driving schools that teach people how to ride vehicles, but their module is also not complete. So, we intend to fill this gap.” Muktesh Chander, special commissioner of police (Traffic), echoed similar views. “Almost all the gadgets have safety handbooks accompanying them, but people don’t read them. Similarly, vehicles also have safety handbooks that come with them but people don’t follow them. Driving doesn’t only mean handling a vehicle. It’s a skill, a language and the signages on the roads that guide you on how to drive. Not following these signages can lead to accidents. This park was in a bad condition but now with its renovation, people will be able to learn the basics of road safety,” he said.
