Department of Posts
released postage stamps on his third death anniversary in Delhi on Thursday. The postage
stamp
which is in the denomination of five rupees was released by
Ravi Shankar Prasad, Law and Justice, IT Minister and Manoj Sinha, MoS, Ministry of Communications at the event 'Sarangi Legacy 2018 - Festival of Music and Dance'. The event was organised by Sarangi Cultural Academy and Saurang Sangeet Society.
After releasing the stamp, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Law and Justice, IT Minister, said, “Ustad Sabri Khan introduced Sarangi to the world, and now it is the duty of Kamal Sabri to take it forward. Sarangi is also called 'sau rangi', and it was Sabri Khan sahab who showed the 100 colours of Sarangi to us."
Ustad Sabri Khan trained a number of sarangi exponents across the world. Also, he was a visiting faculty at Washington University in Seattle. Addressing the family members of Sabri Khan, Manoj Sinha, MoS, Ministry of Communications, said, “Sabri Khan played Sarangi in the midnight when India got independence in 1947. We have released the postage stamp to honour his contribution to Indian classical music.” Talking about the postage stamp release, Late Sabri Khan's son and Sarangi maestro, Ustad Kamal Sabri, said, "My father deserved this honour.”
