Apart from them, also present were Asha and Kamal Modi, designer Anjum Modi and actor Sushma Seth.
Three cheers for India: But the foreign guests just couldn’t have enough of Indian classical dance. Katrina from Germany went ga-ga about the colourful costumes Shovana and her troupe wore. “I wish there were more dresses like that. The dresses kept me enchanted. I want one like that for myself,” she confessed. Ramona also couldn’t help admire the performance. “The moves were really good, and the lighting speed of the footwork is amazing,” she enthused.
Shovana’s still nervous: The dancer translated Hindu and Buddhist philosophy into choreography, and said that the violence she had seen moved her to choreograph the piece. “The bombing of the Twin Towers was the turning point, and then my travels through war-ravaged Afghanistan made me realise the futility of violence,” she said.
And how does she feel before a show? “I still get butterflies in my stomach before stepping on stage, just like I felt the day I first performed,” she said.
