The event started with an emphatic, outspoken skit on domestic violence by members of Mandala – The Magic theatre group. Later, Maneka Gandhi and Sara Pilot made an appearance to show their support for the campaign. “Bell Bajao! is a commendable effort. I think an alert neighbour can play a vital role in reducing domestic violence. They can be the eyes and ears of the law,” Maneka said.
Explaining the concept behind the campaign, Mallika Dutt of Breakthrough said, “Bell Bajao! has become a clarion call urging men and boys to take a stand against domestic violence. Through our partnerships with government agencies like the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the entertainment industry, the UN and community based groups, we’ve already reached more than 130 million people across the country.”
