An exhibition titled, Wearable Art, was recently inaugurated by CCIC (Central Cottage Industries Emporium) at Jawahar Vyapar Bhawan, Janpath. The exhibition that concluded on August 20 offers collections by five designers.

An exhibition titled, Wearable Art, was recently inaugurated by CCIC (Central Cottage Industries Emporium) at Jawahar Vyapar Bhawan, Janpath. The exhibition that concluded on August 20 offers collections by five designers. Sudhawadhwa Bedi, Additional General Manager, CCIC, says, “Apart from promoting indigenous crafts, the designers have given a contemporary twist to Indian textiles in order to attract young buyers. They have also added a modern touch to the traditional jewellery pieces so that buyers can easily team them with fabrics available at the exhibition.”

Nanuet Puri, a jewellery designerSonia Jaitly, who showcased her collection at the event, “I have launched a kalamkari range. I have tried reviving old heritage designs through my collection. It is something that can be easily worn by youngsters and is not restricted to any age group. I have incorporated several contemporary designs in my collection to add a universal appeal to it.” Another designer Archana Kumar adds, “I feel more designers should innovate with traditional fabrics, as it will enhance the business of Indian weavers. I primarily work with Indian weaves and have given a trendy touch to my collection. This year, I have introduced gowns and dresses that are made from traditional fabrics.”
