PM Modi leads power turnout at Badals’ Gurpurab celebration

The annual Gurpurab celebrations at the residence of Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal and Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal are always talked about because of the presence of political big-wigs. This year, the celebrations were even more special as many guests had come to Delhi from other cities to attend the kirtan samagam and to see Prime Minister Narendra Modi.The PM’s arrival was highly awaited by the guests at the function. Modi offered prayers and sat with other guests to listen to Gurbani. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife were also among guests at the function.
A few words from the PM: The PM in his brief address spoke about the proposed Kartarpur corridor and said that it will help people establish a bond. “Kisne socha tha ki Berlin ki deewar gir sakti hai. Shaayad Guru Nanak Dev ji ke aashirwaad se, Kartarpur ka corridor sirf corridor nahi, jan jan ko jodne ka bahut bada karan ban sakta hai,” he said in his speech. He added that the Kartarpur corridor will act as a bridge between the people of India and Pakistan. He was also facilitated with a saropa and a turban by Sukhbir.

Hundreds of candles and roses welcomed guests: The entrance decked up with jasmine, roses and rajnigandha flowers and lit with hundreds of candles was no less an attraction for guests. The staff at the Badals’ residence told us that each year Harsimrat Kaur Badal looks after the décor arrangements and some artists are especially called from Punjab to execute her ideas. “This time, it took us around a week to do all floral arrangements and lighting for the function. Madam personally looks into every arrangement, from décor to langar which is served after the kirtan. Cooks were especially called from Punjab,” a staff member told us.
