At this cultural do, Odissi was merged with contemporary dance forms in an exquisite way. Before the performance there was a lamp lighting ceremony by chief guests Raja Reddy, Kuchipudi dancer and Milena Santana Ramirez, the ambassador of Venezuela. Raja Reddy, who came sans wives, lighted the lamp thrice, one for him and the other two he said were, on behalf of Kaushalya, and on behalf of Radha. Nafisa Ali was there too and sat on the floor.
Ode to the guru: The performers of the evening were two young dancers from the city and members of Pratidhwani, an organisation that is committed to the promotion of the dance style, Nitisha Nanda and Snigdha Shikha Pattajoshi. Ipsita Behoora, founder president of the organisation blessed the youngsters.
Blissfully sacreD: The duo performed two duets, recreating the colour, rhythm and magic of Odissi and Konark temple. It was a tribute to Maa Durga and portrayed the exuberance, grace, beauty, tranquillity and strength of the goddess.
Sacrosanct and sensual: The second part had Nitisha and Snigdha perform solos. Their svelte waists, exquisite attire, alta-painted hands and feet, elegant accessories, melodious sound of the ghunghroos, and of course the expressive eyes, enhanced their graceful hand movements and intricate footwork.
First day first show: The audience was amazed on knowing that it was Nitishas first solo performance. Such clear movements and oozing confidence does not come easy on day one.
Passionate performance: The audience erupted in applause and gave a standing ovation to the duo at the end. Nafisa remarked, Im really proud to see their performance. This is my favourite dance form. Maybe, even I should learn it. And the magic in the eyes of Nitisha has really touched me. Us mein charm aur chatak matak dono hain!
