Nostalgia lingers at Shahnawaz Hussain’s dawat-e-Eid in Delhi

Nostalgia, the upcoming elections and the pain of taking selfies dominated conversations at BJP National spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain’s Eid party on Saturday. The guest list included not just politicians, but also fashion designers and people from the film fraternity, and everyone wanted to click selfies with the host. Shahnawaz, who got tired of posing, said, “I have been hosting Eid parties in Delhi for the last 20 years, but I got a lot of selfies clicked today, more than the combined photos of the last 20 years.” He also joked, “When the PM comes for an event, the security asks all the guests to deposit their phones, that’s the best thing to do.”

It was not just Shahnawaz who had to grant selfie requests, other politicos too were seen obliging the guests.We even caught Renu Hussain and Leena Singh having a selfie moment. Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, who came early, spent most of his time at the party chatting with LK Advani and Pratibha Advani over sewaiyan. Earlier in the afternoon, Home Minister Rajnath Singh also came for a short while and left after a quick chat with the guests.

While there was the occasional discussion on the upcoming elections, most of the guests were busy enjoying the feast. And what’s a feast without some fitness jokes? A guest asked, “Eid ki sewaiyan ki calories count nahi hoti kya?” One of the politicos at the event said, “I’m glad no one has given me any fitness challenge yet.”

MP Meenakshi Lekhi, who met Shahnawaz with his sons (Adeeb and Arbaaz) and daughter (Aayrah) at the entrance, said, “I have been coming to Shahnawaz’s Eid party for a long time. Adeeb and Arbaaz were as young as Aayrah then. These kids have really grown up now.”

The celebrations continued all day. In the evening there was another get-together for Renu Hussain’s friends. Renu told us, “This Eid party is special for us because Shahnawaz and I invite our friends for Eid. This year, I had invited my friends in the evening, and Shahnawaz had invited people in the afternoon. We are glad that everyone could make it.”
