It was all yellow: Celebrating Thai National Day with food and music
Sweet fragrances of Thai delicacies and the notes of Thai music welcomed guests as they walked the red carpet, lined with yellow and pink floral decor, to celebrate the National Day of Thailand at the Thai embassy. The occasion also marked the birth anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The ambassador, Pattarat Hongtong, mentioned that every detail, from food to decor, was chosen to ensure that guests experienced true Thai hospitality.
Traditional feast
The traditional feast for guests was prepared by home and professional chefs from Thailand, now residing in the NCR. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, MoS for External Affairs and Education, was the chief guest for the evening. Following customary speeches by the ambassador and the chief guest, Thai Ambassador Pattarat raised a toast to the Indo-Thai bond and friendship.
Dressing in yellow for the occasion
At the event, the Thai Ambassador Pattarat Hongtong wore the country’s traditional dress – Chilada, a fitted jacket and long skirt made with Thai silk and hand embroidered. For the celebration, some female guests wore the traditional dress of Thailand. Ambassador Pattarat explained, “We wear this traditional costume during official ceremonies, weddings, or religious ceremonies. You will see most of us wearing yellow today. Yellow is the colour of Monday in Thailand and the late king was born on a Monday. So we use yellow as a symbol of respect for our king.” According to a guest at the event, “like in India, the pattern and weaving on the silk differ from one Thai region to the other.”
