RESIDENTS COMPLAIN, BUT THE SHOW GOES ON
Day one saw Mumbai-based band, Daira, and the Raghu Dixit Project make students dance to their tunes. When Daira was performing some EDM and rock numbers, students kept urging them to play some Bollywood hits as they wanted to dance. Lead singer Piyush said, “Mere andar ka Bollywood khatam ho jaayega,” and proceeded to perform some old school Bollywood numbers like ‘Yeh kaali kaali aankhen’ and ‘Ello ji sanam hum aa gaye’.

But it seemed like the loud music was too much for the residents of University area, who called up the cops and officials at the Maurice Nagar police station and requested the college to reduce the volume. A constable told us, “PCR call huyi hain aur yahaan ke residents bol rahe hain ki itni awaaz aa rahi hai, jaise ki concert hamaare ghar ke paas ho raha hai. Humne bola hai inhe ki awaaz kam kar dein.” But this failed to dampen the festivities, and the Lungi Band got on stage and performed songs like ‘Masti ki basti’ and ‘Jag changa’
ALL FOR THE CERTIFICATES
The second day of the fest saw quiz societies from different colleges test their sports knowledge at a Sports Quiz, where students were asked questions like – ‘Do you know who the most famous sufferer of Rheumatoid Arthritis from the world of sports?’ and ‘Identify the player, who, like many from his country, wanted to become a fast bowler but became the fastest runner’. Aniket Mishra and Amit Jha emerged victorious. Aniket told us, “I have been participating in sports quizzes for a long time and I have 800-900 certificates.”
MAY THE BEST SPEAKER WIN
The final day saw students expressing their views in favour of or against topics like, ‘Is caste system detrimental to growth’ and ‘Communalism in politics’ and ‘Are beauty pageants objectifying women?’ in the debate session – Times Vibate. The students also touched upon current issues like the JNU debate and Rohith Vermula’s suicide during their speeches.
