When a hangout joint in the city decided to do a Jim Morrison tribute a day after the death anniversary of the legendary singer, everyone in town wanted to join in the celebrations. DJ Black Jack got behind the console and played till the crowd went crazy headbanging. Even after about 90 minutes of groovy music, the crowd was still wanting for more.
Said Surya, a DU student, “Morrison was god!” Mohit Khanna, another Morrison fan, echoed those sentiments, saying, “Morrison is my god. I can’t live without his music!” Later, DJ Black Jack was seen interacting with the crowd and distributing CDs and Morrison posters.
TELL ALL THE PEOPLE: The DJ, a 54-year old based in Hyderabad, said, “I’ve been playing for the past 22 years, and I’ve been playing Morrison since, forever! Now I’m planning to form a band with drummer Ramesh Venkat, called Jack And Hammer, and we’re going to concentrate on classic rock and blues.” About the kind of money in the music scene today, he said, “I have to play retro stuff for weddings and parties even though I don’t like to, because that’s where the money is.”
INDIAN SUMMER: All the people there were Morrison fans, of course, but other than the singer and his songs, FIFA too made for a hot discussion. People were seen talking about their favourite teams. But Morrison and The Doors clearly dominated the do. There were three walls dedicated to Morrison, with Morrison paintings and posters put up all over them. There was also a quiz with Morrison posters up for grabs.
