Delhi loves art: There are art dos, and then there are art dos. Delhi loves them all, but it loves some more than it loves others. This one fell in the former category. Kalyani Chawla and her mother Alaknanda Saha recently curated an exhibition of art from Bengal, and a lot of the city’s glitterati turned out to see the works and meet each other. The early birds to this one were the people who usually walk in late - Rohit Bal and Ritu Kumar. They took a long, leisurely look at the paintings while chatting with each other. “I know a lot about these paintings,” Ritu told Rohit. “I’ll take you around.”
Mommy’s girl: Kalyani looked different and quite nice in a purple saree. When we told her so, she said, “I love wearing sarees. I feel really comfortable in them.” The guests were also impressed by the curatorial work, but there, Kalyani gave all the credit to her mother. “She’s done most of the work. All credit to her,” she said with a big smile at her mom. Chatting away: Kavita Bhartia was making an appearance after a long time and looked pretty in a brown skirt. She said, “I have been so busy with work.” She spotted Vijay Arora and caught up with him before Payal Jain arrived, and then the two ladies chatted non-stop. And they were there too: Amol Vadhera, Manav Gupta, Shalini and Sanjay Passi, Ameeta Seth, Ayesha Thapar, Tanisha Mohan and many others walked in as the evening wore on. As soon as Ameeta entered, she went and hugged Kalyani and said, “Sorry for being so late!” She then took a quick look at the works and left. Mukul Dev is in the city again, spending time with family and persevering with his ‘bad boy’ beard. He had been shooting in Jaipur and stopped over in the city to catch up with them. “I love Bengal art and Kalyani is a good friend,” he said. Sudip Roy, one of the artists present, was enjoying a lot of attention as people came and told him how good his work was. Alpana Gujral looked quite smart in a black outfit.
