Delhi engages with KS Radhakrishnan's sculptures
Chawla Art Gallery hosted an exclusive, thoughtfully curated immersive art walk for its ongoing exhibition “Once Upon a Sculptor”, featuring eminent sculptor K. S. Radhakrishnan. The walkthrough was personally led by the artist, offering an intimate engagement with his body of work and artistic journey.
The session traced Radhakrishnan’s evolution from his early years to his more recent iconic works, as he shared insights into the ideas, processes, and emotional undercurrents shaping his sculptures. His reflections provided a deeper understanding of the recurring figures and forms that define his practice.
The evening was attended by distinguished guests, including Amitabh Kant, Former Supreme Court Judge, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Dr Anupam Bhargava, Mr Alok Shriram, and Mr KS Mehta, along with collectors, members of the art fraternity, and cultural enthusiasts.
“Once Upon a Sculptor” presents a curated selection of works spanning decades of the artist’s practice. The exhibition brings together key sculptures that reflect shifts in form, expression, and philosophical inquiry, offering a cohesive view of his artistic trajectory.
Radhakrishnan, widely regarded as one of India’s leading contemporary sculptors, is known for his Maiya and Musui figures, dynamic forms that capture movement, duality, and the human condition through precise posture and expression. The exhibition also reflects the gallery’s longstanding association with the artist, including earlier showcases, his solo presentation at India Art Fair 2015, and continued engagement with his work.
Shibani Chawla, Director, Chawla Art Gallery and Curator of the exhibition, said, “Once Upon a Sculptor brings together an oeuvre of works that traces Radhakrishnan’s artistic journey—from his early sculptural expressions to the later iconic Maiya and Musui figures—reflecting distinct emotional and philosophical states that together chart the evolution of his practice.”
