BAPU IN ART: Artists from across the country recently gathered to appreciate works of art reflecting the life and work of Mahatma Gandhi at a charity exhibition at the British High Commissioner’s residence in the capital. Organized to raise funds for the Gandhi sculpture to be put up in Parliament Square in London, the do saw many Bapu-inspired pieces by artists like M F Husain, Jogen Chowdhury, Manu Parekh, Raghu Rai, Jatin Das, Haku Shah and Arpana Caur.

GOING GLOBAL: Meghnad Desai, who set up the Gandhi Memorial Trust, told us, “It’s a wonderful gesture on the part of these renowned Indian artists, who are not only helping us in putting the statue in London, but also supporting the work of fellow artist and sculptor Philip Jackson, who has made the statue.”
James David Bevan, the British High Commissioner to India, added, “Gandhi will be given his honour and due in the Parliament Square.” This statue has attracted the attention of people worldwide and the art works from the event can be viewed and bought online. Sunaina Anand, who has played an integral role in putting together this exhibition, said, “The Mahatma is a special show where Indian artists have come forward to pay their tribute to Gandhiji, who’s philosophy has touched hearts across the globe.”
