Astitva band brings JDMC’s fest to a rocking close

The band members of Astitva brought down the curtains for Symphony, the annual cultural festival of Janki Devi Memorial College (JDMC). On the last day of the fest, a rock show was organized by the students’ union exclusively for the JDMC students. The band started with one of their original compositions, Tu Hi Bata, and also sang covers of Bollywood songs to entertain the crowd.

As the band finished their first song, Salman Khan Niazi, the lead vocalist of the band, said to the crowd, “I want you all to get up. We want to make sure that you have the craziest time here at the fest.” He then began to sing Kabira and later thanked the college for inviting the band and added, “This place is very alive. Yeh gaana aap sab haseenao ke liye hai.”

We took a risk: Students’ union
While the students had a great time, the students’ union was a bit apprehensive of the response from the crowd. “We had called Guru Randhawa last year, so we had expectations to live up to, but the crowd was really happy with the energy of the band. They were really happy that we had something different this time,” said Nayan Jhangiani, a third-year student and media head of the students’ union.

Priya Nangia, a third-year student of BCom (Hons), added, “My friends and I had a great time. The band sang their originals as well as Bollywood songs. We didn’t even realize when we start singing with them. It was so much fun.”
