An arty evening in Delhi
The art frat had all the reasons to unite at this soiree hosted by Sunaina Anand as it showed ceramics by artist PR Daroz.
After eight years, he decided to have an exhibition in Delhi, which is why Ina Puri had flown especially from Mumbai to meet him. It was all about brush strokes, unique colour combinations, portable ceramics, inspiration, motivation, visualisation, price of paintings aaj kal, artists’ history...
1x1 polls
phew! We asked artists as to how the new, young, kalakaars are doing? While Binoy Varghese was all praise for them, adding that the younger lot is lucky to get so much exposure — something that the present veterans didn’t have when they started out. What else has changed in the world of art over these years, we questioned artist Jayant Gajera, who said, “Well, earlier an artist’s worth was known by his artworks. In reverse, today, a piece of art is valued according to the artist who made it. So if it’s a great artist, no matter what he makes will be valued, but if it’s a great piece of art, and the artist is not known, you can never be sure as to how much it will be valued.”
Food for thought: At the do, a gender debate on two of Daroz’s works was doing the rounds. Engrossed in the debate were Sangeet Gandhi, Amitabh Kant and Manu Parekh. “This one will be liked by a lady because it has too many designs and colours on it and that’s how feminine taste is – wanting too much out of anything and everything. And the other one will be appreciated more by a man because that one is simple and sleek,” claimed Amitabh, inviting disagreement from Sangeet. Manu however, didn’t agree with either of them! This session came to an end with bouts of laughter. So hansi-mazaak, greeting and meeting, art-analysis – et all, was done and then it was time to bid bye-bye.
